Make Your Own Ice Cream
You will need:
- Small carton of double cream (142ml)
- Sugar
- Dessert spoon
- Vanilla essence
- Water
- Ice
- Salt
- 2 Small Ziploc freezer bags
- 1 Large Ziploc freezer bag
- Elastic band
- Tea Towel
- Carrier bag
What to do:
- Check the bags for holes! If the bag leaks there will be a terrible mess.
- Pour the carton of double cream into the smaller of the Ziplock bags; add a dessertspoonful of sugar and a teaspoonful of vanilla essence.
- Close the bag and shake it a bit to mix the ingredients.
- Open the bag and pour a little of the mixture into a small bowl. Reseal the bag, and for extra mess-proofing twist the opening and seal with an elastic band. Put this bowl of mixture into the freezer. Let it sit undisturbed as it freezes. Let’s call this sample A.
- Add enough ice to fill the larger bag about half full and then sprinkle a handful of salt onto the ice. Place the bag of mixture inside in side this larger bag and seal.
- Wrap the large bag in a tea towel and place it in a carrier bag. Tie the carrier bag handles together so that you have an easy-to-handle ‘parcel’.
- Now: shake shake shake. Shake the bag and toss it from hand to hand for about 20 minutes. Get volunteers to help you with this….
- After it’s well frozen, open the large bag and pour out the ice and salt water. Open the small bag – this is sample B. Use a spoon to taste your results.
YUM!
